{"id":145,"date":"2022-08-03T13:35:17","date_gmt":"2022-08-03T13:35:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/volcgeodesy.iavceivolcano.org\/?p=145"},"modified":"2022-08-03T13:48:09","modified_gmt":"2022-08-03T13:48:09","slug":"status-of-unrest-in-reykjanes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/volcgeodesy.iavceivolcano.org\/status-of-unrest-in-reykjanes\/","title":{"rendered":"Status of unrest in Reykjanes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IMO (<em>Icelandic Met Office<\/em>) published the interferogram showing new dike intrusion on <strong>Reykjanes Peninsula<\/strong> and deformation associated with the M 5.47 earthquake on 31 July 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this interferogram, it&#8217;s possible to observe approximately 16 cm of northwestward displacement related to the intrusion, which commenced on the 30th July 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, from preliminary deformation modelling results, the top depth of the new dike intrusion beneath Fagradalsfjall appears very shallow &#8211; about 1 km and the magma inflow rate is too rapid, almost double that observed during the first dike intrusion in february-march 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this moment, all the signals (deformation and seismicity) indicate a declining and this was precursory to the eruption which started on 19th March 2021.
